What is Nurturie?

  • Quite simply, we are your youngest children’s personal chef and nutrition resource.
  • We are a team of busy and health-conscious parents, foodies and entrepreneurs, dedicated to making feeding children fresh wholesome food more convenient. We deliver fresh (never frozen, except for purees – more on this later), nutrient-rich, kid-tested meals once a week. Our food will stay fresh for at least 2-5 days (or longer for frozen purees), allowing you stock up on breakfasts, lunches and dinners to cover you the entire work week and into the weekend. Use-by dates are noted on food packaging. 
  • We do all the work and make it incredibly convenient for you to feed your children fresh, healthy, nutritiously varied and complete, tasty foods. No researching, planning, shopping, cooking, storing or clean up required.
  • In a nutshell, we make it easy to start your children off on a foundation of optimal dietary health.

Where are your meals cooked?

  • All of our meals are cooked, packaged and shipped from our commercial kitchen located in Manhattan. We reside at Hot Bead Kitchen, a highly regarded and regularly inspected “incubator” kitchen that’s been helping some of the most innovative NYC food start-ups launch. What kind of meals do you offer:

  • We offer a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, sides, snacks, baked goods and infant purees so that you can order all the meals you need to feed your children all week long, based on your preferences.

How are your recipes developed?

  • All of our recipes were designed by award-winning chefs to meet the pediatric dietary guidelines and goals set by our nutritionists. The result is recipes and menus that are not only nutritionally balanced and complete, but also that children will actually eat.
  • Children’s palates are different than adults. Some sources suggest babies have a preference for sweet flavors. Breast milk and infant formulas, babies' only food during the first 4 to 6 months on life, are high in lactose, or milk sugar, and wariness of new foods may be part of an evolutionary adaptation designed to protect our ancestors from eating harmful substances. Whatever the cause, many of us know firsthand that when babies transition to solid foods they prefer the sweet flavors of sweet potato, carrot and apple over broccoli. Similarly, young children often retain a preference for softer and blended foods even as their chewing ability prepares them for table food. 
  • Nurturie aims to harness flavors and textures young children commonly accept to introduce a wider variety of healthful ingredients into their diets and nudge their palates one familiar bite at a time. Vegetables in pancakes? You bet!

Will my child eat your meals?

  • While we cannot guarantee that every child will like every meal, our meals were developed based on real-world testing with infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Our meals have been found to be commonly liked. In fact, in our tasting trials, we found 75% of our tiny tasters accepted over 50% of the meals presented to them without regard to their personal likes and dislikes. We believe that our menu offers parents and caretakers a wide selection of meals that will be pleasing to most children.

Dietary and Nutritional Information

Why are Nurturie meals nutritious for my child?

  • Our ingredients and recipes have been selected and developed to enable what we believe are optimal dietary choices based on the most current available food and nutritional science consensus and new findings. We consult with nutrition experts and are avid readers of the latest food safety and nutritional findings. First and foremost, our meals and menus are designed to meet, at a minimum, the nutritional standards established for young children by the recently updated USDA 2015 National Nutritional Guidelines.   • What does it mean to adhere to USDA guidelines? Our recipes and serving sizes are designed to deliver a balanced diet when a variety of meals are selected from our menus over the course of a week.
  • Serving sizes are set based on calorie guidelines for age related groups and meal categories (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks).
  • Serving sizes are established based on the mid to high end of caloric ranges provided by USDA for age groups, taking into account all gender, weight and activity levels. So while your child may not finish all meals, you should always have enough food to satisfy your child’s appetite at each meal. However, we offer a variety of side dishes and snacks to supplement meals for children with heartier appetites.
  • Many of our individual meals are nutritionally varied, and our menus are nutritionally varied. When you choose a variety of meals from our menus we believe that you are highly likely to be selecting a meal plan for your child that supplies the recommended amounts, types and balances of macro nutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fat) and micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals). Notwithstanding the quality of Nurturie’s meals, we cannot make any assurances as to the completeness of your child’s diet as Nurturie cannot and does not control which meals you select and which meals your child will eat.
  • Nurturie chooses to use ingredients and prepare meals that are or contain: 1) Organic ingredients, 2) Free of antibiotics and growth hormones, 3) Free of nitrates, fillers and other common food chemicals, 4) Whole grains and varietals of whole grains, such as quinoa, barley, oats and spelt. (In fact, whole grain spelt flour is our all-purpose flour of choice), 5) Little to no added sugar, 6) Wild caught and sustainably farmed fish, 7) Sources of healthy unsaturated fat such as extra virgin olive oil, nuts and seeds, omega-3 containing fish like salmon and organic dairy, 8) Grassfed protein and dairy such as grassfed beef.

How do I know what’s in your meals?

  • Unlike restaurants and some other fresh meal delivery services, we label all of our meals to FDA standards. We must. It’s the law when marketing food products specifically for infants and children under 4 years. And we are subject to state licensing and inspection procedures.
  • Our food labels are age specific to each of our menu categories, Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers, so you know the values displayed are appropriate for your child.

Where can I find the ingredient and nutritional labels for your meals?

  • Go to the product details page of our website for any meal and then click on the tabs titled “Ingredients” and “Nutritional” to see exactly what’s in our meals.
  • All of our meal containers also contain Ingredient and Nutritional labels.

Are your meals and menus designed to accommodate special diets such as low fat, gluten free, vegetarian?

  • At this time we do not offer meals designed to support any special dietary plans or goals other than those standards set by the USDA. However, many of our individual meals would fit within a variety of dietary plans such as these. For example, we offer recipes that would be considered vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, nut free, etc. Refer to any of our meals detailed product descriptions page to see if it meets any of these special dietary and ingredient profiles.
  • For your information, low fat diets are not recommended for young children.

Packaging, Delivery and Storage

How are your meals packaged and delivered?

  • We transport your meals to your home or delivery address in refrigerated cooler bags. Meals arrive chilled and should be placed in your refrigerator promptly upon delivery to keep them as fresh as possible.
  • All of our meals are individually packaged in single serving portions and containers.
  • Our main food containers are “green”. We use products made from natural, compostable materials. Learn more about the packaging brands we use at the manufacturers' websites: BeGreen (www.begreenpackaging.com), Sabert (www.sabert.com) Fabri-Kal (www.fabri-kal.com) and search for their "green" "environmentally friendly" and "compostable" products.
  • In some cases, when we cannot find a suitable “green” container we may use plastic containers. We currently use plastic cups for some condiments and accompaniments.

How should I store and use your meals?

  • All Nurturie Toddler and Preschooler meals, side dishes, baked goods and snacks should always be refrigerated upon delivery. Nurturie meals are prepared fresh without preservatives, like most home cooked meals. Our meals can be consumed chilled or warmed, depending on your preference. Certain meals should always be reheated per the reheating instructions included in your delivery. 
  • Nurturie Toddler and Preschooler meals can be stored by refrigeration safely for 2-5 days from time of delivery, as noted on the food containers.
  • Nurturie infant purees are delivered frozen, and should be placed in your freezer upon delivery. We take feeding babies very seriously. While many baby food cookbooks that you may have read indicate fresh purees can be refrigerated for up to 3 days, freezing fresh infant food is the safest way to ensure that no contamination occurs. Nurturie frozen purees will remain fresh for up to 60 days from delivery. Freezing will not alter the freshness, taste, texture or nutritional qualities of Nurturie fresh purees upon proper defrosting and/or reheating.

Can I increase the shelf life of my meals by freezing them?

  • While our meals will taste best when consumed by the use-by date, you may freeze our meals to extend the expiration date for up to 3 months. If you choose to freeze a meal, do so immediately upon delivery. Do not freeze meals that have been stored in your refrigerator for a day or longer. 

Is your packaging recyclable and reusable?

  • Our food containers are both compostable and recyclable
    • “Green” food containers and lids are compostable. Discard them in your regular trash. Do not put these out with recyclables
    • Plastic condiment cups and lunchbox containers are recyclable
  • Delivery bags and cool packs are reusable. Keep them for your own enjoyment and use. Want to recycle? If you have no need for your bags and cool packs, but can't bear to throw them away, we will be happy to reclaim them from you upon your next delivery. Just leave them outside or with your doorman.

Ordering

Where do you deliver?

  • We currently deliver to most Manhattan neighborhoods. Use our zip code checker on our home page to see if we deliver to your area.
  • We will be expanding to other NYC area neighborhoods soon. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive news updates about our expansion.

What do I need to know before I order?

  • Nurturie in an on-demand meal delivery service. We cook and prepare meals to satisfy customer orders placed on our website.
  • Nurturie currently deliver once weekly on Sunday evenings.
  • We deliver between 7pm-10pm.
  • Nurturie takes orders up to 7 days in advance of scheduled delivery dates. Therefore, you can always place an order for our next upcoming weekly delivery date. 
  • We have an ordering deadline. Because we may deliver up to thousands of meals at a time, specially packaged and chilled, we must work on a set production schedule. We need to receive all orders by midnight (11:59 PM to be exact) of the preceding evening of the delivery date in order to process deliveries. The ordering deadline for Sunday deliveries is Saturday evening at 11:59 pm. Notice of our deadlines will be clearly displayed on our website. **Please note that orders received after the deadline will be scheduled for delivery Sunday of the following week. For example, an order received at 12:01 AM on Sunday morning WILL NOT be delivered that same day, but will be scheduled for delivery Sunday of the following week. Notice of our deadlines will be clearly displayed on our website.
  • Order notifications: Upon placing your order, you will receive an itemized order confirmation by email. When your items are sent out for delivery you will receive email notification. 

Automated reordering, how does it work?  

  • Use auto-renewal to get the most convenience and best pricing from Nurturie. If certain meals are working for you, setup a weekly auto-renewal to receive a delivery every week without having to return to the site and place another order, and get 15% off. Auto-renewal works just as if you created a new order each week without going through the whole process of returning to the site, loading your cart and re-entering your payment details. Want to make a few changes to your weekly order? No problem, just log into your account to remove and add any items from our menu at any time. The changes will take effect according to our regular weekly ordering cutoff schedule. In other words, changes made prior to Thursday at 6PM will be reflected in your delivery that next Tuesday. Pause or turn-off auto-renewal at any time. It’s that easy.

  • Reheating instructions will always be provided with your order and can also be found in the product details page for any item under the Prep tab.

Customer Accounts

Creating and managing customer accounts

  • You will be prompted to create a customer account when placing your first order, with your name, delivery address and email address. With your approval, our payment gateway will retain your payment details and you will not need to reenter these details when reordering, making future checkouts quick and easy!
  • To change the name, password, address or any other details of your account, login to your account and follow the prompts for editing and saving your information there.
  • To close and delete an account, login to your account and follow the prompts for editing and saving your information there.

Payments, Pricing and Promos

What forms of payment do you accept?

  • We accept all major credit cards.

How much does an average meal cost?

  • Our Toddler and Preschooler meals and snacks on average cost $8.00 when taking advantage of automated reordering. Our menus are designed to provide all the meals and snacks a child needs for an entire day. The average cost of Nurturie meals for an entire day, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, costs $25.00 to $35.00 per day depending on the calorie requirements of your child. 
  • Our Infant purees cost $1.79 for a 2 oz portion of Single Ingredient varieties, and from $2.79 to $3.49 for a 4oz portion of Simple Blend varieties. 

When am I charged for my meals?

  • You are charged when your order is placed. 

How much does delivery cost?

  • Shipping is free when your order value exceeds $59. For orders that are below $59, you will be charged a flat rate of $2.95 for delivery.

How do I apply a promo code to during checkout?

  • If you have received a promo code, you will be prompted to enter it during the checkout process. All discounts will be reflected in our final order confirmation.

Do you have a refer-a-friend program?

  • Yes! Every time you refer a new friend, you will receive a $10 credit towards future purchases on nurturie.com. Your friends will receive a $10 credit to be used towards their first purchase on nurturie.com. 

What if I don't see a promotion reflected during checkout?

  • If you’ve gone through the checkout process and believe a promotion has not been correctly applied, please email customer support at info@nurturie.com.

Can I receive a refund if my child doesn’t like it?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund if your child simply does not enjoy a meal. However, we do want your child to find Nurturie meals he/she will enjoy. If you’ve purchased meals your child would not eat please email us at info@nurturie.com and tell us about it. We will work with you to select meals that may be more accepted by your child and will consider offering a replacement meal free of charge on a case by case basis.
  • In the event your child does not eat a meal, we hope that you or someone else in your household will enjoy it. Our meals are fresh and chef-prepared and have been known to make great small plates and snacks for adults!

What if there’s a problem with my order?

  • Although we take great care to ensure the quality of our service, in the event there’s a problem with your order, please send an email to info@nurturie.com or call us at 212-653-0859 and describe the issue. We will consider a refund or other means of addressing your grievance on a case by case basis. Problems could include receiving the wrong items in your order, receiving your order on the wrong day or at the wrong time, spoilage and mishandling.
